Geithner Faces Hearing Over AIG Rescue

The White House was forced to defend Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner as he faced new questions — and a congressional hearing — into his role in the rescue of American International Group Inc.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Mr. Geithner wasn’t involved in controversial emails, released Thursday by Rep. Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) that suggest the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, while headed by Mr. Geithner, pressured AIG not to disclose large payments it made to banks at the height of the financial crisis.
