Frum: ObamaCare is Constitutional
Republicans John Ensign and Jim DeMint are reviving a 200-year-old theory to argue that the Obama-Reid bill violates the Constitution by making Americans buy health insurance. The GOP may regret playing along…
The federal government already requires every American to purchase health insurance. That’s what Medicare does. The difference now is that everyone will be required to buy a private plan to cover them up to age 65 in addition to the government-run plan they are compelled to buy to cover them after 65.

The federal government already does lots of things that are unconstitutional. And this i a good argument to let them keep on keeping on? I fear you have missed the whole point of taking back our country and restoring our Constitution!
As to whether the feds require you to purchase medicare at age 65, or any age, I can speak only of my own situation. At age 65 I was still working, and had a company health plan much better than Medicare parts A and B. I kept the company plan and opted out of Medicare until I actually did retire a few years later. No penalty was assessed, no taxes, no nasty letters or knocks on the door. And when I finally signed on, it was at the cost that would have been assessed had I done so at age 65. Had I wished to continue on a private plan, I could have done so. So, at least in my experience, there was NO “requirement” that I accept medicare as my primary health plan. I’m one who believes a legislated requirement to purchase health care is unconstitutional — then and now. Here’s hoping someone, somewhere, files a class action suit that gets to SCOTUS. I’m pretty certain it’ll be shot down if the current high court make-up remains the same for at least a few more years.
Why is it there is always some pundit that makes an irrational statement while sliding into obscurity, thus awakening his sickening rhetoric.
