History Repeats Itself: Huckabee Becomes Dukakis

2009 December 1

Call it Willie Horton 2.0.   After winning the Democratic Party’s nomination in 1988, then-Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis’s presidential campaign was destroyed by Republican attacks on his role in the release of Willie Horton on a weekend furlough. Horton surprised and shocked leftists everywhere when he did not return to jail, and later raped a woman and assaulted her fiance.

In the immortal words of Yogi Berra, this is like deja vu all over again as former Pastor and Governor Mike Huckabee commutes the 95-year sentence of Maurice Clemmons who is now a suspect in the cold-blooded assassination of four Washington state police officers.   Now all we need is a photo of doofus Huckabee riding around in a tank.

Huckabee’s political career may not be completely over, but his prospects for a successful presidential run in 2012 are about as likely as a Cap and Trade bill passing the Senate.  Not very likely, in other words.

Bad for Huck fans, perhaps, but terrific news for the Palinistas.  As the Republican pool of possible candidates continues to shrink, the prospects for a Palin presidential run seem more and more likely.

    Could not happen to a bigger loser than the Left’s favorite R, Huckster.

    Al Gore,Jr. was the very first one to make an issue of Michael Dukakis’s involvement in the Willie Horton affair. The Republicans merely jumped aboard the train after it had already left the station. The leftist establishment now accuses the GOP of race-baiting. Was Gore indulging in racism? Mike Huckabee’s political career is over. Ann Coulter has been vindicated. She politely told him to his face that while he might be a nice guy—the former Arkansas governor is too liberal to ever get her support.

    I’d vote for Huckabee over the 2 judges that gave Maurice Clemons (who is dead, YES!) only $15,000 bail for rape of a 12 year old. I say “EXPAND JESSICA’S LAW!!!”

    Chris,
    I’m not sure words like, “a photo of doofus Huckabee,” is up to the standards of NewsReal. That’s something you see in comments – and not in the blog itself. Let’s raise the bar. It ruins possibly valid points to use that kind of rhetoric.

    Huckebee had his chance and should return to the hive.

    The sorting process has begun, go join Newt. Another of the old guard who let a lot of people down along the way. The blame for the triumph of the Democrats falls on many in the Republican party.

    Bush made mistakes, but he had a lot of people enjoying personal success from his failures.

    Paul;

    One can always find someone so horrid, as to make some other jerk look good by comparison….

    On the second thought, belay that remark… I just tried to think of someone worse than Obama, & I couldn’t……

    Paul;

    Perhaps… but I’ll have to admit that it was just a smart a$$ remark…

    Taking your comment seriously however, I think Pelosi is just a blithering idiot, and I don’t think Biden would be worse.

    To be worse than Obama, he’d have to be even more hell bent on destroying this country, and I don’t think that’s Joe. To me, he’s just a sleazy political opportunist, who would (and did) do anything to get himself on the big stage.

    Oh I know it was a smart @ss remark. Those are the only two that are worse. The Obama administration knows how bad Biden is, you never ever see him. He comes out in random instances and when he talks, its something that Captain Obvious would say or a three year old would (without being blunt, I’d love a straight blunt talking politician). And with Pelosi, she thinks people like her, frick I can’t stand her, her voice, her face, and her incredibly cocky attitude. She is by far one of the most cockiest people in politics.
