I’m Thankful for Navy SEALs. I Wish the Commander-in-Chief Was.

The next time you’re tempted to tell one of your Tea Party friends they are exaggerating about the Obama-run government, don’t.
Rush Limbaugh makes a joke one day, and the media or the Administration acts it out the next.
Glenn Beck is excoriated for saying Obama is going to fill the government with radicals—and then several quit under pressure because the American people can’t stomach their extreme views.
Sean Hannity is poo-poohed by “smart” so-called conservatives like Brooks, Buckley and Frum, saying Obama is not radical, he’s moderate, even conservative by “temperament.â€Â We get Cap and Trade, Government Motors and Socialized Medicine.
Vince Flynn’s latest thriller seems to take a point to the ridiculous extreme when his hero, Mitch Rapp, is hauled before a Senate committee for dislocating a terrorist’s shoulder while extracting information in the middle of a massive terrorist attack. A friend chuckled and commented about my review, “I like the point, but that’s a bit far.”
You might think so, but as Steve Centani reported on Fox News last night, Ahmed Hashim Abed, the Iraqi terrorist who ambushed American contractors, burned their bodies and hung them from a bridge, (which precipitated the Battle of Fallujah) has filed a complaint against the Navy SEAL team that captured him.
A terrorist has a “bloody lip;†the SEALs are being court-martialed
And not because this piece of human debris only has a bloody lip. This is not a joke. Well, it is, but not a funny one.
The 2004 atrocity on the Fallujah bridge became a symbol of the brutality of the insurgency in Iraq. The fact that these men are facing punishment instead of a medal ceremony is a perfect symbol for the futility of the Obama play-acting at war.
Of course, next week Barack Obama will be accepting a medal—and a million bucks. Because the people on the committee expected precisely this kind of behavior from the United States now that he is President.
My head hurts.
An article by Rowan Scarborough on Fox’s website lists the three scapegoats to political correctness:
Matthew McCabe, a Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class (SO-2), is facing three charges: dereliction of performance of duty for willfully failing to safeguard a detainee, making a false official statement, and assault.
Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe, SO-2, is facing charges of dereliction of performance of duty and making a false official statement.
Petty Officer Julio Huertas, SO-1, faces those same charges and an additional charge of impediment of an investigation.
What’s mindboggling about this, is that the SEALs had handed Abed over to Iraqi custody, and he was returned after making the complaint. The SEALs all deny he was punched while they had him. (So much for the old fighting to the death thing, eh?) It’s no secret the enemy would rather be in American custody than Iraqi custody.
So, the SEALs probably did not even give Abed the bloody lip; but this is certainly going to give the Obama Defense Department a black eye.
This is going to do wonders for recruiting. I already know one college student considering OCS after graduation who upon hearing this news said, “Well that option’s off the table until we get a real Commander-in-Chief.â€
The three SEALs were offered a non-judicial punishment called “a captain’s mast.â€Â A slap on the wrist to be sure, but a long-term derailment of three promising careers. A mark on their permanent records, if you will.
So, McCabe, Keefe and Huertas rejected the plea agreement and demanded to appear before a Court Martial to fight for real justice.
Think it’s a stretch to blame Obama for this? It’s pretty far down the chain of command, after all.
Look, admirals and generals know what their Commander-in-Chief wants, and know how to curry favor. This is new ground. While many of us were outraged at the Haditha prosecutions of Marines, non-combatants died there. George W. Bush was a war president for 7 years. There were no “fat lip†prosecutions during that time. If you think that’s a coincidence…
To paraphrase Indiana Jones, have none of these people EVER seen a World War II movie? Â Even the Geneva Convention, which the Obama crowd claims to genuflect before, allows you to take non-uniformed combatants out back and shoot them immediately. Â To extend GC protections to terrorists makes a uniform a target, and not wearing one a distinct advantage.
I’m confident that no court-martial panel made up of warriors will convict these heroes. And they are certainly better off facing a “military tribunal†of sorts than in falling into the hands of the Obama/Holder Justice Department, where the following is considered a possible war crime.
Think I’m kidding? Read the Justice Department report on the justification for Holder’s persecution of the CIA.
Note that despite being three of the best-trained soldiers in the world, these three are still not officers. Perhaps they should have lectured their comrades that Muslims around the world should rise up against the Yankee invaders, railed that infidels must be beheaded, tried to turn in other soldiers for war crimes, and reached out to al Qaeda recruiters with telephone calls.
Then, they’d likely be at least Captains by now in the politically correct military.
For enemy morale and recruiting, this is worse than Abu Ghraib, and even the future KSM trial. Our most highly trained commandos, the point of the spear in our fight against the enemy, are being put ON TRIAL for something that would likely have a street cop given a week’s suspension. Forget being trained to resist our interrogation techniques, now al Qaeda can just tell their operatives, “If you are captured, just cry `I have an owie!’â€
Today, the Obama-led military has given al Qaeda something to be thankful for. The biggest propaganda victory since the beginning of the war on terror.

I fought in two wars, one revolution, spent five days in the Tiajuana jail, went to a goat roping, an axel greasing, a snake wrestling revival and watched a Chinese fire drill and I AINT ever seen a circus like the political correct rectal groments are having with our fighting men.Being given NJP for a prisoners fat lip is crazy, much less a courts martial. SHAME on the commander who ordered it and greater SHAME on the superiors who permitted it to proceed. Wish that I was on the jury. There seems to be a serious lack of cajones among senior officers

This is one of the STUPIDEST things I have EVER damn heard. The top soldiers in our entire armed forces, and just because one VERY sought after TERRORIST said “Oh, please sire soldiers, these soldiers hurt me, oh the humanity they hurt meeee (followed by constant whining that would make every 2-13 year old that didn’t get their way COMBINED)”. I really hope Robert Gates comes out and says, “whatever does happen, I will pardon them no matter what”. Really, I hope someone in this administration does that. If Obama were to do it, then he would go up a few hundred points in my book. Why? I just want to see action from Obama, the right actions. Pushing AND rushing Cap and Trade (or Cap and Tax) and full health care to all (in only… 5 years while you start paying for it in 2…) are just wrong. If President Obama said that this is just plain wrong and that he would make sure these soldiers got pardoned and then were allowed back into the military, it would be great and I would personally want to thank President Obama. These are our elite forces. These ARE the best of the best, none better than the U.S. Navy SEALs (SEa Air and Land). U.S. Special Forces have nothing on the SEALs (nothing bad to the Spec Ops, they are also better than any other equivalents in the world).

Our son is serving his last two months in the Navy. He has had two Captains Masts over stupid things. If he had a chain of command that had a spine, they would have dealt with it sparing him of excessive punishment and ruining chances for promotion. Considering who is in charge, political correctness has sunk to the lower chains of command. I pray that God protects the men and women who serve for surely many of their command are more worried about their own political butts than those on the frontlines. I never felt this when Bush was in office but I can not wait for our son to get home. We have had four in our family gone at once. One is in Iraq. We pray for all of their safety and that the current Commander in Chief opens his eyes and pulls his head out. His words ring hollow to me.

I hate political correctness. It has made us very scared to offend anyone from possibly being sued by the ACLU (or how my friend calls it the Un-American Civil Liberties Union or the UACLU). If the ACLU did ever b***h at me, I would go after THEM and say you are holding back on my 1st Amendment rights and threaten to sue THEM!

When I first heard about this I did not believe it. I have a 17 year old son who wants
to enter the military preferably the Marines. Do college and training at the same time. I went to the recruiting office and listened, for two hours. We went in the afternoon and there were a few interruptions. This was at the beginning of Nov. I waited a few days and then tried to explain to him my feelings about this administration, especially my lack of trust. I told him I do not think our Pres cares about the safety of our troops, and I cannot in good conscience let you work for him. It now seems that I was right. He will not give McChrystol what he needs, and now this!
This is the real, unspoken reason morale in so low within out troops.
Hey Obama,Give them what they need, then step back and let them do their job!

I hope he does send the reported 34,000 troops within 2 months. Send SOMETHING, you appointed this guy, not someone else, you DID. It’s like telling someone to call someone VERY important and you take away their phone, fax machine, computer, and all gaming equipment, and you must do it in only a few hours (not to mention they live a few thousand miles away).

Remember the two border-patrol agents who got thrown in the jug for doing their thankless job and shooting that drug-dealer in the hindquarters?
This happened during the Bush administration, but at least Dubya had the good sense to pardon them and release them.
(Admittedly, sooner would have been better.)
Who knows, Obama might manufacture a reason to put them BACK there.
Maybe he will work a deal with the Mexican government and re-incarcarate them ACROSS the border. Why upset the Federales?
The list goes on. Obama has made it worse, but this hatred towards America in Academia and the Federal Bureaucracy has been around for a long time. Spoiled children who believe we don’t deserve our success – and lash out against the people who sacrifice more than anyone else – those who protect and serve us and who go out every day knowing they might never come back.
Instead of hating ourselves and our military and public servants, why don’t we just thank our creator for having the good fortune to live where we do?
We could have been born somewhere else, after all.
Where things aren’t so damn good.
Like Michael Medved says, let’s appreciate the fact we live in “The Greatest country on God’s green earth”!

Pardon four turkeys.
Condemn three SEALS.
What a day!
Thank you for shedding light on this. God Bless the SEALS and all those in uniform on our behalf.
Shame on those who let this happen, and double shame if the SEALS don’t get the same compassion the turkeys did.

I wouldn’t pardon a turkey for anything logical. Take the four turkeys, pluck them, cook ‘em and DIG IN!!!!

Let’s make sure KSM gets himself a good dinner and nap today.
After all, he will be performing soon.

Had I been captured, Id have expected a good ol South Chicago a– Whippin. It happens. It keeps the prisoners thoughts on the present and not the future interrigation. Prisoners were slapped, kicked, punched and goughed to keep them in fear of the future interrigation. This may seem like harsh treatment to some but consider what the American captives have had to face, it aint squat. Ive talked to old friends who were taken prisoner by the Japanese,
Germans, and the Viets. Our treatment is Sunday School to their ordeal. Our troops, taken prisoner, cannot expect less harsh treatment because of the way we treat prisoners and anyone who says different has alot of BS to sell.

Outrageous charges against our men defy comprehension, brought
him in alive, that is the outrage, who gave that damned order?
Fat lip, fat lip, someone needs to be sent back to the dark side
of the Moon. Our government is on the side of our enemies, we
are being sold out, day by day, hour by hour. Falsehood is in
charge and pervading all of our lives and everything that is
happening in America. The decades of lies will be our undoing,
this scandalous treatment of our Navy Seals is another prime
example of how low we have come. Anyone for more tolerance,
the liar in cheif will be pleased with you so get on your knees
and parise him. Our educational system has produced the deceitful
people now taking over or in charge of everything and they have
no moral base. The new wave of citizen is without love for America,
who is to blame? For those of us who have done all we can to
maintain our culture and promote truth in all aspects of our lives,
it may be the end of what we have known. The beginning of sorrows
was years ago, evil never takes a day off nor rests, God help us.

Twenty-six years in the FBI, many undercover….there but by the grace of God go I.
I wonder how many law firms are lining up to provide pro bono advice for heroes rather than terrorists.

Are you kidding Bob? I’m sorry, I’m not trying to belittle you at all. The “pro-bono” lawyers will, 9999 out of 10000 times, cover the terrorists for one reason. Publicity. If you had a pro-bono lawyer be the attorney for the heroes, his name would be in only a few places, Fox News, Wall Street Journal, maybe Politico and a few others. If you had a pro-bono lawyer be the attorney for the TERRORISTS, his name would be EVERYWHERE. They just want their name to be out there and how easy is it to do it by doing something just COMPLETELY stupid. Look at the lawyer covering the 9/11 Terrorists, he is just a complete douche bag. They sell their soul for an ounce of gold, and that is what these pro-bono lawyers have done/are doing.

I would like the opinion od folks on a ticket with John Bolton it. He seems to have more savvy than most and cant be accused of being politically coprrect. At least he seems to have a set.

John Bolton doesnt mince words or suffer fool from what I see and hear or have read about him. We have people such as the General, The Govenor and the Ambassador. All have good minds and love America.. All our president now does is endeavor to get as much face time on television as possible or jet (on our dime) all over the world accomplishing nothing but scorn from other nations and a feeling of hopelessness with our citizens here.

Marcus Luttrell’s book Lone Survivor was an eye opener for me. He talked about how even then they had to worry about being prosecuted by the Left in this country. Now with BO and his administration in power our military does the job at their own risk.
Thing is we are fighting a religious war. This is a war declared on us by Islam. BO’s grandmother, a Muslim is at the Haij in SA right now. BO is sympathetic to Islam so he will not name the enemy, nor will he do anything to protect the American people, this is only the beginning. First he goes after his critics, attempting to silence them, now or military, while granting enemy combatants rights of citizens.

Why would Obama pardon a white turkey? Perhaps it was a Bill Ayers brand turkey? Unless of course this was actually an albino turkey of color.

It is a shame that the SEAL team is being prosecuted especially if it is something they did not do. And if they did so what. This PC crap is ruining our country.
These SEALs are the great fighting men of our country and do much more then you ever hear about. It needs to be stopped.
Our country is going down a very dangerous path.
I thank all the SEALs for their service

Bush didn’t pardon Ramos and Compean. He commuted their sentences on his last day in office. From the day of their arrests, President Bush backed his old friend the prosecutor,Johnny Sutton.
And, the SEALS and other servicemen deserve so much more from their government than they are receiving. This whole thing makes me ill, especially when we all know KSM and the other headcutters will receive the same rights and privileges as any American caught jaywalking. What a pile of puke is Washington DC.

Looking at our past we always had a Commander in Chief that had served in the military, and understood the dangers of war, they also carried a big club that they used if necessary. I hope that we will elect our next president with a military service background.
It is sad to see our commander in chief who is not a patriot (Proven by degrading our country with the statements that he made, and not respecting our flag ) who treats our veterans in such a manner which is worse than the enemy’s treatment. It is downright un-American. I get the impression that he is working for the other side.

Are you people insane? Military personnel MUST be held to a certain level of conduct. It is a soldier’s job to accomplish his objective, which in this case is to bring in a terrorist. It is NOT a soldier’s job to abuse their detainee. Punishment for the detainee’s crimes is administered by a court, not by the soldiers.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/11/25/navy.seals.falluja/
According to CNN, the soldiers are facing charges of misdemeanor. MISDEMEANOR. The very most they’ll be sentenced to is one year in prison, and given how valuable an asset special forces are to the military, they most likely will NOT receive while in the middle of a war. We’re not charging them of war crimes. Your “liberal” government is operating under standard procedure.

Special Court Martials are rarely if ever handled by anyone anywhere close to the President. It is fallacious and misleading to equate President Obama’s policies to the erroneous decisions of certain Naval Officers and certain JAG prosecutors regarding this case… That being said, Obama may have some bad policies. Ultimately, it is up to the Officers and JAG to charge the right crimes and push for the right punishments…
If you punch a prisoner while he is in custody for no reason, you’re probably going to get it trouble, but a special court martial might be a bit extreme… I heard they refused to sign their NJP’s… perhaps they could have been given some sort of limited administrative penalties, such as reassignment, if it is true that they punched a prisoner while in custody…

Corporate Mercenaries get butchered. Then we spend tax-payers money to hunt down their killers. Sounds like business as usual for the Right? LOL
The Right picks ONE insane news item and runs with it like this is what difines Liberalism.
Simpletons… ya gotta love em…
Get real,sheeple- Mr. Smith isn’t goin’ to Washington. He or she would be “Geary-ed”, a la Godfather 2, long before.I look forward to seeing how the ‘Mellican sheeple react to the ACORN Reconquista Privacy Intrusion masquerading as the 2010 Census.

I truly wish Bush would have Pardoned those two border agents much quicker. Lets let two well qualified and good border patrol agents go to jail while a drug and arms trafficker can just walk across the border and if the agents don’t lie down the drug and arms trafficker will complain, say he was beaten and then get them going to prison.

But the Border Patrol incident, disgraceful as it was, involved LAW ENFORCEMENT inside the United States, AND the discharge of a firearm. A bloody lip on the battlefield. The Onion wouldn’t make this up.
Here’s a video compilation of war crimes according to Eric Holder.

We should all be thankful for Bob’s service, as a Marine and especially afterwards– and for that of his Marine son. Check out his great columns for Big Hollywood here–

and here’s my review of his book exposing NAMBLA and the great story of his years having to hang around with these creeps as an undercover FBI agent.

I went broke so if I don’t have any assents, common ACLU, try to sue me for slander, but if I ain’t lying, then what, an embarassing revelation.
Did I see Patton on a white horse galloping up Pennsylvania Anevue with his pearl handled pitol drawn or was that just a (hopeful) dream?.

Well said. Ad sexual predators to that list, also. They should cop the plea and slide off into oblivion.

You’re absolutely right, this is a circus.
The way Obama treats the military, is a direct result of something that began during the Vietnam war.
There has always been an unwritten covenant between command authority, and members of the military. In it, the government makes a pledge to the military that while in the service of their country, they may have to risk their lives, and even lose their lives, however the government will never WASTE their lives.
That covenant was broken for the first time in the Vietnam war, when political leaders (LBJ & McNamara) started to micromanage the war directly from the White House, in many cases establishing rules of engagement that put our forces there at risk, purely for political reasons. We knew that something had changed when it became obvious that command authority wasn’t prosecuting the war to win. There’s only one way to fight a war, and that’s to win it, with the minimum number of casualties possible.
I know of not one instance since then, when a republican president has done this, but Carter, Clinton and now Obama have made the situation even worse, to the point where Obama sees the military as nothing more than a large group of expendable assets, to be used in whatever manner best enhances his political ambitions, and his international prestige. The common thread that binds these miscreants together is that they’re all cowards
I’m a former Marine. The son of one of my best friends was in the Navy for about 12 years, and a SEAL for the last 7 or 8 of those years. He quit not long ago because of something that happened on his 3rd or 4th overseas deployment. In essence he was ordered to teach our military skills to members of Iraq’s military.
All of the SEALS over there knew that some of the people they were teaching, were in fact insurgents, or Al-Queda members, who were simply going to use the skills they acquired to kill Americans. There was a major incident that proved beyond any doubt that this was happening, after which my friend was ordered to conduct another class in a highly specialized skill that he was a master of, and he refused to carry out the order. The CO of the team he was with asked him why, and he replied that he wouldn’t continue to teach those (expletive deleted) how to kill Americans.
I suspect that his CO was probably sympathetic to his reasoning, and rather than putting him through any punishment proceedings, they just quietly let him out, well before his then current enlistment was over.
This must all come to an end.
In looking for a possible candidate for 2012, I can’t see any politician out there, except for Sarah Palin, who I’m absolutely sure we could trust to place the best interests of the country, ahead of their own personal political or egotistical desires. Unfortunately, I doubt that she’s electable. I therefore think we should look elsewhere for the right candidate, to find someone who actually has the ability to beat Obama…
There’s one guy out there who I KNOW we could trust to do the right thing for America, and who has both the proven management skills, and the education (including a PhD in International Relations) who just might consider taking the job out of a sense of duty to his country.
His name is David Petraeus

I agree with you, brother. If the big O’s not careful, the military might start thinking of him as a domestic enemy of the consititution and remove him.
I’d like a front row ticket to that show.

I am pleased someone agrees with me on Bolton. He is sound, a strong man and would be a welcome break from the mish-mash we have as our “leaders” today.

Thanks Bob and Swemson. Debbie, please be cautious mentioning your current service member in a conservative blog. Perhaps I’ve read too much about Russian history, and perhaps I am seriously paranoid, but, yes, I do think our every word is being noted and judged… and I do think these people are capable of anything. (And yes, I do have a reason to have thought about this). God Bless your son, and thanks to him and you for his service. I’m with you 100%

A “Dancing With the Stars” prize for the Obamas might add a nice patina to the next campaign. Their destructive Leftist agenda is only topped by their unending quest to stay on top of the celebrity circuit. Yuck. I agree… their ongoing campaigning can only help us.

Betty, Debbie’s son is only a potential recruit. Like the young man I know who was thinking of checking out Marine OCS after he gets his degree, but saw this story and decided the only reason he wanted to join was to give terrorists fat lips. But since that would be after 2012, he’s in a wait and see mode.

David;
That scenario is of course a bit over the top, but I do believe that BHO has pushed this country much too far, and the threat he poses to a great many people is so serious, that there could be some violence involved in getting him out of the WH.
I’d hate to see that happen, but Jefferson’s words about nourishing the tree of liberty are still in the minds of lots of people…

Baloney. There is an election less than a year away. It’s a natural pressure valve. And while a few nutballs may talk like the guy above, the United States military is not about to mutiny. ANd it’s slander– not to mention leftist– to talk as if they are.

David;
I wasn’t referring to any organized military actions at all.
The potential violence I was referring to (as an example) is the angry lone guy, who lost his home in a foreclosure, flips out and takes a shot at someone like Barney Frank. Depending on how far BHO goes, before the next election, that could escalate to other people trying to do the same with their far left senators & representatives when they’re in their home states.
There are also those who believe that the next election in 2010 may be a total sham. With the majority of the 700 billion stimulus money unspent, he has a virtually unlimited slush fund to use to buy the elections in the races where his majority is threatened. And if you don’t think that this man has the audacity to do something like that, or to use his ACORN & SEIU thugs to deal with a few of the upcoming races that are too tight to control, then I’m afraid that you’re being a bit naive. I don’t think there are any limits to what this guy will do in order to achieve his insatiable lust for power.
PS: I know you’re not naive, and I hope I’m wrong.

Joe;
I’d love to see it, but I’m afraid that with her name on the ticket, it’ll be much harder to win the election.
With Petraeus & Bolton, Sarah could then be appointed to an important cabinet post. If the first term is very strong with high approval ratings, and Sarah gets a lot of exposure from her cabinet position, they might then swop jobs in 2016, with Sarah as the VP and Bolton as National Security Director. If we’re still going strong after 8 years, & the public has had a chance to get comfortable with her, then it’s Sarah in the top spot in 2020. She’s young, and with all of the experience she would gain in those 8 years, I think she’d have a pretty easy time of it…
As for 2028, I couldn’t care less because I’ll be dead by then.

Yes, I see that now. I am a little closer into the fire, and a little jumpy, I guess. Beyond the wait and see stage, unfortunately. I pray for our troops and potential troops every moment of every day.

In the Luttrell case, the debate was whether to slaughter possibly innocent civilians in cold blood to insure mission security. That would always have been a controversial decision in the US military in any time period. What is rarely discussed is that once they made their decision, it bordered on foolhardy to go ahead with the mission. It should have been aborted. Unless their target had been Osama himself, it was not worth the risk.

It’s gotta be discouraging for these guys to stay frosty when all the time they’re doing the jobs they’re paid to do, they also have to watch their backside for backstabbing. Wonder if that has anything to do with the uptick in military suicides?

Actually, you’re the one who’s insane.
These terrorists, have forfeited whatever “natural†rights they may have had by virtue of their actions…
And liberal loons like you who cry about one of them getting punched, rather than over the pain and misery that their victims and their families suffer, are one of the primary reasons why these barbarians are emboldened to commit more and more such acts of terror.
You can call it anything you like, but we and the rest of the civilized are at war with these animals, and in a war, the object is to kill the enemy. In order to do that most effectively, sometimes you have to get information from them before you kill them, and if a punch, or water boarding, or a bullet in a kneecap, gets us that much needed Intel, then anyone who DOESN’T have the stones to deal with them this way doesn’t belong on the front lines of the military.

I love Sarah, and if we were facing a normal election I’d agree that she had a good chance.
But we’re not.
What we’re facing is the most dishonest corrupt president in American history, who, in addition to the media, also has all the union & acorn thugs at his disposable, as well as the judicial department who will forgive whatever they do (remember when Holder let the Black Panthers off the hook?)
The bigger problem however is that he also has a slush find of roughly $500BB to use to do WHATEVER IS NECESSARY to insure that he gets reelected. You must keep in mind that we’re dealing with a megalomaniac here, to whom nothing he does can possibly be wrong. To be totally honest, I think that our real objective in this next election isn’t so much to elect a Republican or a Conservative, as it is to get BHO the hell out of that house.. In previous elections, we always knew that we had the opportunity to recover in 4 years if we lost because we stuck to our principles. That’s no longer the case. If we don’t win in 2012, America as we know it, will be gone forever.
Different game… and it requires different rules.
Now I love Sarah, but even by 2012 she will still have some residual negatives, that will lessen her chances of victory… Remember, this won’t be a normal election, form the git go I’m guessing that BHO will have anywhere from 5 to 10 point advantage over any challenger, from election fraud, intimidation, and races where the parties will already have been bought and paid for.
After listening to Glenn Beck for the last few months, I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s right when he says that Americans are fed up with BOTH the democrats and the republicans.. I therefore think that anyone with superb credentials and direct experience relative to either of our 2 primary problems, defense and the economy, is especially viable for the very reason that he’s coming for OUTSIDE the beltway.
If Petraeus proves to be a conservative in his thinking, rather than some sleazy political/military halfbreed like Wesley Clark, then I think that a huge part of the electorate will clearly see him as the best possible candidate for the job of “Commander In Chief
Now granted, that’s not the entire job, however if the war against terror goes really bad for us in the next 3 years, as I expect it will since we currently don’t even HAVE a real “Commander In Chiefâ€, I think he’ll become even more attractive in a manner that crosses all party lines and ideological grounds. And this is especially true if we suffer any serious terrorist attacks (or a number of smaller ones such as the one at Fort Hood) here within the next 3 years.
When you think about it dispassionately, a Petraeus – Palin ticket with someone like John Bolton as Sec Def, looks like an excellent combination of the skills and experience that we need to bring this country back from the brink.
After 8 years as VP, in a successful administration, Sarah would then be virtually unbeatable in 2020. Enough time will have elapsed for the vast majority of her negatives to be forgotten, she’ll have 8 years experience as VP which will prevent anyone from challenging her on the basis of her experience, and she’ll still be only 56 years old…
With the cards already stacked in his favor in 2012, BHO is going to be REALLY tough to beat. In essence I believe that we need another Hail Mary play to get rid of him, and I don’t think that anyone within the beltway has the power to do overcome such a huge advantage.
