From the Communist Manifesto: "In bourgeois society, therefore, the past dominates the present; in Communist society, the present dominates the past." Hence the radicals' sense of being able to remake ... everything. And not just a sense, but an imperative, to which all evidence, objection, opposition is unthinkable, unadmissible, enemy. A more contemporary rendering is "Another world is possible." Also the impetus to create a "green" energy/technology/economy.

Maybe these places have come along since I have been there but my opinion is that Socialist Westen Europe and Canada have never been a
match to America. Austrailia and New Zeland have been on a par for
a long time and in these days of the destruction of our economy
by leftist eletes it is possible the slide downward will have us
behind Haiti in a few years. You may have a different experience
and thus a different opinion. Health, education, standard of living
and longevity, come on what leftist coolaid have you been drinking.
Sober up and get out and see all of America and not just the cities
that have declined and were once great, you may not have been around
long enough to experience the better America I know. Valhalla when
you see Thor ask for a tap on the head to loosen up that brain of
yours.

This comment by David Horowitz is a deep understanding of communistic mindsets. We owe it David's past intimacy with that mindset. Others could not have understood it.

Recently, a friend told me that in his view, the most dangerous ideologies/religions are those based on promises for an afterlife, referring mianly to islam and to some extent christianity. David's comment on communism/fascism shows an affinity with islam that is bot deep and not trivially apparent. In my view, this comment is a major step into understanding what is happening now. A war between those who relinquish any link to reality (whoever they are, not necessarily muslims or communists), and others.

Congratulations for this great intellectual contribution.

"Only in America has the average person had a decent chance for a better life for themselves and family."

Really? What about Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Western Europe? Comparision of various measures of "The Good Life" usually show that other countries are ahead of the USA in health, education, standard of living, longevity, etc.

This statement is so absurd that it boggles the imagination.

I remember it well. I was an airhead.

We just made it up as we went, matching it all up with our intangible ideals. We thought we knew everything. We were so morally superior, too, at least in our own minds. We knew what was right for everyone, and anyone who did not agree was -- well, just no good somehow.

I am glad this is being revealed. Though I lived through it myself (before my change), I couldn't really recognize it from the inside of the movement. I was totally given over to getting this supposedly great work done, highly motivated and very dedicated...couldn't see much of anything good about this wonderful country, though deep in my heart I knew better.

I am forever grateful to have had a turn-around.

Hard to believe how much in that space I was!!

I still marvel at the liberal-mind bubble.

the makeup of the human mind is indeed fascinating.i see people as being born with intrinsic traits(instincts?,emotions?,thought patterns?,take your choice of words.)could it be in there upbringing which causes them to be so easily blinsided by these ficticious ideas? is it part pavlovs dogs part hitlers the big lie part who knows what which causes this nearsightedness?when i speak at times with some of my liberal upper west side friends on these mattersit seems amazing to me that folks who are otherwise coherant and logical and so on inmost things when it comes to there complete trust in these false concepts there's nobody at home to converse with. could it be as we could say in brooklyn they just are missing balls of the spirit?

what I seem to find is-those who feel as if society has not given them -money or recognition-fame-respect-pick one or all. So they blame our way of life, if they were in charge it would all change. So we know nothings have to listen to them, and obey them.
You have to many people, abort them, deny them life saving medical care-if they are too young (under 15) too old (over 40)-keep them on edge-flue-fear of climate change -etc. etc some game plan.

This is David's best stuff. Powerful food for thought. We're flooded with remembrance of evils from history: Plato and all the "idealist" philosophers who did not like this life and this earth, i.e., reality, and demanded that men live for a non-existent utopia of the future. We see the same mind-set in Islam: freedom of any kind MUST be prevented or destroyed in this life if we are to attain the heavenly utopia of the next life.
The socialists in our government plow on blindly, in spite of the catastrophic failure of socialism both in theory and in practice in the past 100 years. Utopian thinking blots out the facts of reality, the contradictions that pound them in the head, the loss of freedoms... jd

Alright here it is my big moment. I am really going to tell everyone what I believe.

To an extent, yes, you can call me a "commonist" because I believe the truth George Orwell wrote, "some pigs are more equal than others and thus get sent to the pork chop factory." There. I said it.

However, to deserve that equality worthy of the butchers block, you have to be of the utmost utilitarian evil. I get it, okay. People kill people, but sometimes that is because they have accidentally summoned the practical monsters from the abyss and just cannot stop themselves from killing.

It is not that fascists love the institutions, but it as if the institutions reach a critical mass under fascist societies which is run by a two headed monster. For evil Hitler, there was a hidden Reyhard Heydrich who not only built death camps, but made the death camps run at a genius efficiency worthy of Beethoven or Mozart's genius. It as if Walt Disney built a country modeled after not just bad, but really bad borderline-narcissist human pairings.

However you know what really screws up fascist societies? Not the Yippie movement, but wrongheaded do-gooders. The theoretical "evil homers" who can somehow pollute Hitler. The Art of Warfare boils down to one thing and one thing only: Whoever can summon the most druids from the woods while at the same time bogging the other sides champion down in the largest suit of armor and then smashing them with the biggest amalgam of rocks and sticks win, period. It wasn't the Jew's ideas that destroyed western society, but Einsteins theoretical poisoned apple bestowed from above.

Horowitz understands all this as only one may who once was a true believer. Every account of someone who has had second thoughts about their Leftist convictions is a fascinated read for me. Horowitz explains it so well.

Nevertheless that someone may believe it seems still so strange. Then, the same person's subsequent journey out of it accompanied by all the unraveling that must be done is very interesting.

"Their eyes are fixed on the revolutionary future that is perfect and just. Measured by this impossible standard, any actually existing society – including America’s — is easily found deficient, even to the point where it is worthy of destruction."

And, one should add, therefore justifies any tactic, no matter how low, mean, illegal, vicious, or reprehensible to achieve that impossible end.

By the way -- where has Guido(the Enlightened) got to? Haven't seen him around here lately, jousting with his poison-tipped rubber saber.
