Dennis Prager Would Vote for Palin? It's Almost Like He's a Conservative or Something

On November 3 I blogged about the Left’s tendency to treat the very act of preferring conservatives to liberals for public office as somehow scandalous in and of itself. Last night’s episode of “Hannity” offered another example of the phenomenon during a “Great American Panel” discussion on Sarah Palin.

Left-wing strategist Bob Beckel mocked the former Governor of Alaska as political kryptonite, a sure-fire disaster for the Republican Party whose new book must be “a quick read,” and questioned whether her recent cover photo on Newsweek (see above) signals a run not for President, but “for head cheerleader.” (The photo, by the way, wasn’t shot for Newsweek, but taken from a Runner’s World profile on health & fitness. Context, Bob.)

In response, conservative pundit Dennis Prager (who earlier acknowledged Palin has a way to go before proving herself as presidential material) asked Beckel:

Prager: Hey, are you impressed with Joe Biden?

Beckel: Yeah, sure I am.  I’m impressed with him.

Prager: You really are?

Beckel: Yeah, I am.  But, but here’s the thing […] do you really believe, in your heart of hearts, would you feel comfortable with this woman being President of the United States?

Prager: More so than the present President, more so than Joe Biden.

Beckel: What? What?!

Prager: There’s no question. With all of what I said about gravitas, in-in a heartbeat.

Beckel: Prager, you’ve lost your mind.

Prager: Yes, of course! We wouldn’t be putting the United States in permanent debt with an ObamaCare plan, because we would have taken sides with the Iranian democrats.

Beckel: Y’know, you’re one of the smartest conservatives I know, which is an oxymoron, but for you to say that is amazing.

Dennis Prager is capable of giving an honest assessment of one of his side’s politicians, but Bob Beckel sputters with disbelief that anybody could prefer an imperfect candidate who shares his core values to an imperfect candidate who rejects them. Why, thinking conservatively and replacing The One with any lesser mortal are so obviously incompatible with sanity or intellect that I don’t even need to say anything more about it!

Of course, if Beckel’s desire for competent, dignified leadership were sincere, then perhaps he would have noticed more than a few lapses in professionalism from the current President, or the Vice President’s casual acquaintance with the truth or chronic foot-in-mouth disease.

When you get right down to it, the Left just isn’t all that interested in winning battles of ideas. Their modus operandi is to mock and marginalize the Right, and if they can’t prove us wrong, making it taboo to associate with us will more than suffice. Whenever Bob Beckel and his pals try to pull this trick, they need to be called out on it—and it would also be nice if they weren’t hailed as “great great great great Americans” on a weekly basis no matter what they do, too.
