In my other capacity as a conservative talk radio re-capper, I’m obliged to keep “an ear” on goings-on over at the left side of the dial. Luckily, Radio Equalizer Brian Maloney listens to leftist talk radio (such as it is) so the rest of us don’t have to.

Yesterday, Maloney caught MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow describing herself as a “talk radio show host” (audio here) — which is strange, because she hasn’t hosted a radio show for about a year now.

It’s clearly just a goofy slip. I certainly wouldn’t call it “resume padding” a la Ed Schultz.

But here’s the point: leftist “media watchdogs” and the liberal media never let conservative public figures forget it when they make mistakes and misstatements, no matter how minor. Sometimes they even harp on things those conservatives didn’t even say or do in the first place, perpetuating some urban legends well into multiple decades.

Why do they do it? Because, sadly, it works.
