The race in NY's 23rd district is separating the wheat from the chaff. Newt and the Republican Party are out of touch with Regan's principles and with what is happening in the country today. The time has come to clean house in the Republican Party, including Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich. Principles are more important than people. If we learned nothing else from Obama's election let it be that the agenda of the statists will not be derailed or defeated by anything besides conservatives dedicated to preserving and restoring our founding principles and values. The Scozzafavas and Lindsey Grahams of the party can follow the turncoat Arlan Specter to the side of the statists. The new Republican Party has no use for their masquerade anymore.

We should tolerate neither hypocrisy (Newt) nor anything goes (liberals).
Why do we have to settle for the lesser of two evils?
I think Newt is a brilliant mind, but of questionable character who does more good behind the scenes.
I think he's backing the wrong horse on this one and needs to swallow his pride and do what he has to know is the right thing.

My comment was meant as an in house of criticism of the republican party. I didn't mean to suggest or imply that liberal pols or ideology was in any way superior.
I'm just questioning why we should tolerate this moral flaw in our republican party leaders (like the liberals do with their leadership). There is nothing wrong with listening to his speeches , i just don't think he has a right to lead any longer. There are others more trust worthy and should be given higher consideration in decision making.

Mr. Forsmark
I would have to agree with that as well. I also remember reading the admonition of another Frenchman De Toucville in reference to the morals of the nation and how it would effect it's future.

While your point is well taken, Jack, I prefer Ginchrich's hypocrisy in moral matters to the liberal approach of tolerating everything. Should Newt have ADVOCATED adultery because he was having an affair?

As the French moralist Francois de La Rochefoucauld said, "Hypocrisy is the homage which vice pays to virtue."

I lost interest in Gingrich long ago. How much integrity can a conservative have that very publically caluminates against someone for committing adultery in office (Clinton) while he is doing the very same thing at the time. It comes at no surprize to me that he is willing to engage in the same sort of duplicity in the business of political elections.

I've also wondered how Gingrich could sit next to pols like Clinton in a foreign policy organization, the Council on Foreign Relations, when in political life they claim to be so much at odds. There are so many discrepancies like this that politics really looks like a punch and judy puppet show.

After yesterday's polls, it turns out that it's not even Party over Principle, but that Principle may win DESPITE Party! It would be the best smackdown. Can't wait to hear Matthews/Olbermann/Parker/Sullivan explain how Palin/Limbaugh/Beck wins a New York Congressional seat over the supposed middle majority, if it happens.

Well said, Mr Koenig. When Michael Steele became chairman of RNC, I thought we might get some change, a new direction with purpose and hope. I was wrong. Now Newt Gingrich is disappointing, also. I saw a clip of Newt at one of his book signings where he said the nomination of Scozzafava is the right one, adhering to party lines.

They are all comfortable in their shells, I am afraid. Where is the American backbone, the no-nonsense guts? Certainly not in Washington, D.C.

Mr.Koenig
This a great post and goes right to the point. It is the actions of the Republican party leadership if you can even call it that which has put the country in it's current condition and them in the minority. You cannot be all things to all people Gingrich would have people abandon all principal to elect another Arlen Spectre or worse. The Republican party has lost it's direction and if it does not return to it's basic guiding principals is doomed. With out Hoffman who Gingrich should be supporting why would a person of integrity vote for either of the other canidates?
