The shock value wears off over time, and one is forced to assess such characters on their actual merits, which are very hard to discern. Ron Reagan was the son of a conservative and David Brock formerly wrote rather constipated prose for conservative publications, such as the American Spectator. It is never very edifying to see people turn on others who provided them with support in order to garner some income. This is especially true with David Brock.
