IF the question of whether she died by suicide or by accident is in doubt (which is all you might be able to establish) then it’s awfully sick of you and MM to choose the answer which makes Beck out to be a liar. I mean you do see how this is really distasteful and unnecessary and how a reasonable could call this a smear? The circumstances of someone’s mother’s death is in doubt and you accuse them of lying about it in order to illicit sympathy from people and further their career? You really hate Beck that much?

Because it seems to me that if you just disagreed with his arguments then that’s all you’d do. You’d refute his arguments (which is fair game.) But instead you choose to dig into his past to try and destroy him personally.

Let us be honest I can tell you yes most of us that comment here I cannot answer for else where would find it loathsome to see these kind of attempts to harm someone through the tragic death of there parent that occurred many years ago and the individual grew up with out the care and attention of the parent. The fact that you see nothing wrong with it belies all that you and your ilk claim to stand for. This is no surprise however to those that have watched hacks like you and your acolytes over the years. How many stories did you or your associates do about Sarah Palin and her disabled baby? Then how much time have you devoted to the drug problems of the Kennedyâ€™s or to the serious problems of Al Goreâ€™s son these people are out driving while impaired and may kill some one. I am sure you are covering your site with stories about Nancy Pelosiâ€™s conflict of interest in legislation regarding Samoa and Del Monte or Charlie Rangel and his tax violations. Do not try and drum up comments about Teddy Kennedy and the questionable death of the young woman that he abandoned because they are by no means equal. You are simply a hack. End of story.

Media pundits no doubt have senses of humor to some extent or another. And different people see humor in different things. I find what makes a person laugh or fail to laugh a revealing “poker tell” in sizing up an individual. A true gateway to the soul.

BTW, Firesign Theater isn’t very funny anymore. When the culture changed. their humor got stale.

And to think I was trying to be nice by not answering your question. I was trying to give you the chance to explain yourself before I level the charge more fully.

But I’ll answer your question: the purpose of reporting these facts is to depict Beck as the kind of person that would lie about his own mother’s death in order to illicit sympathy and manufacture an image. It’s an ad hominem attack by your organization and I’d like to see you try and justify it.

There can be no other relevance to rehashing his mother’s death.

But my sloppy typing, it’s not a smear of Glenn Beck’s mother, it’s a smear of Glenn Beck.

The fact that I didn’t find Shaidle’s “joke” funny, or even recognize that it was supposed to be a joke, is perhaps an indication that it failed as a joke. I, like the vast majority — if not all — of my Media Matters colleagues, do have a sense of humor (my taste runs toward Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Firesign Theater, with a little Bill Hicks mixed in for variety).

Also, how exactly did Media Matters “smear” Glenn Beck’s mother? By reporting facts?
