So the Village Voice has a deceitful response to David Horowitz, who called them out on their smear. Rather than address Horowitz’s critique (that the Voice tried to depict him as a racist), Roy Edroso instead tries to further muddy the waters:

We have Horowitz saying, “Hill is one of a community of black intellectuals promoted well beyond their abilities.” Horowitz says aha! What he really wrote was: “Hill is one of a community of black intellectuals — Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson are two obvious others — promoted well beyond their abilities.” “Notice there are no ellipses in the Village Voice account,” he adds. We felt bad about this and wanted to make amends, but first, just to be thorough, we went back and checked the original to see where we had failed. There we found: “Hill is one of a community of black intellectuals promoted well beyond their abilities — Michael Eric Dyson and Cornel West are two obvious others — who are poisoning the minds of black youth with” etc.

Son of a gun — Horowitz misquoted himself! If you were of a suspicious turn of mind, you might think Horowitz re-positioned the Dyson-West clause to make it look as if we’d offered a gutted quote rather than a partial one.

Horowitz responds to the Village Voice‘s newest smear:

The serious charge I made is that a Voice writer named Edroso edited my statement to make me look like a racist. Edroso doesn’t deny it. Instead he throws up a smokescreen by saying I misquoted myself and goes on to ridicule me and smear me a second time. Par for the left-wing course.

I had a lot better things to do than deal with mud-slingers like Edroso. So in writing my original reply instead of looking up the exact words I used, I reproduced the thought I had expressed as I remembered it. Any sentient reader comparing what I said to what I remembered will see that it’s the same thing. Let this be a lesson in the low dishonest tactics of the left.

The reality: this is a constant problem with Edroso’s Exploring the Right Wing Blogosphere columns. Edroso is not concerned with engaging or understanding the “Right Wing Blogosphere.” He’s not an explorer; he’s an exterminator. His objective is to yank quotes out of context to depict conservatives as horrible human beings unworthy of intellectual engagement. (Him quoting more of Horowitz in his reply doesn’t exactly make everything right. He still makes no denial of the intellectual crimes he commits regularly.)

Edroso did this with Horowitz and Paul Cooper, and I’m sure his radical assaults will continue in the future.
