Even Media Matters disgusted by Polanski apologists

polanski

That was snarky, I know. But given how hard it is to keep up with the latest “progressive” “goodthink” without my Left Wing Decoder Ring (I had to pawn it when my Z.O.G. check bounced…), I trust you’ll forgive me.

Media Matters‘ Jamison Foser manages to out-snark me anyway. With unconcealed contempt, Foser blasts two Washington Post columnists for downplaying the crimes of filmmaker Roman Polanski, who fled the country in 1978 after being convicted of sexually assaulting an underage girl, and is now being extradited to the United States.

As well, Foser generously credits conservative blogger Patterico (who works for the L.A. County District Attorney’s office) with pointing out columnist Anne Applebaum’s unstated conflict of interest in the matter: her husband, “Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, is lobbying the U.S. to drop proceedings against Polanski.”

Finally, the one thing conservatives and progressives can agree upon: child molesters should be punished, no matter how many Oscars they’ve won.

Sadly, we can’t even go that far.

To site just one example from this week: on The View, liberal Whoopi Goldberg opined that what happened to Polanski’s victim wasn’t “rape-rape,” adding that, in Europe, the incident wouldn’t have been such a big deal. And please don’t comment that “nobody watches The View;” millions of women do, every day.

Now, American liberals bemoaning the philistinism and puritanism of their unwashed fellow citizens is nothing new. What is relatively new is what Catholic blogger and author Mark Shea has called “the mainstreaming of pedophilia,” a phenomenon driven by Hollywood and other cultural taste-makers.

People were shocked back in the 1990s, when little girls dressed up as “Pretty Woman” (i.e., a prostitute) for Halloween. These days, pre-pubescent girls dress like that to go to school every day. Movies from obscure festival prize-winners to Oscar winners like American Beauty are incrementally normalizing pedophilia. Glamor is a potent agent of erosion. (Which is why, incidentally, Catholics renewing their baptismal vows promise to “reject the glamor of evil.”)

As Mark Shea has observed ruefully: today’s progressives (rightly) condemn pedophile priests (although mostly as a stick to beat the Catholic Church with); tomorrow’s even “more enlightened” ones will be obliged by their own twisted, doctrinaire logic to hail them as poor, misunderstood victims of society’s “dark age” intolerance.

Gee, if only all those Catholic priests had thought to go to film school instead.

Of course, it was “rape-rape” (champagne, quaaludes and physical force) as well as statutory rape. It would have been rape if she’d been 25. But Whoopi’s line will be the one all the lefties will take; someone with a stronger stomach and a better cable package than I have can watch Bill Maher explain how the Europeans, unlike the American yokels, are all very sophisticated about men in their ’40s having orgies with girls barely out of Elementary School.

If Whoopi had been “kinda-sorta-raped” when she was 13, I bet she wouldn’t be talking about forgiving and forgetting.

look, she was paid off so what is the beef. if we go judging our artists with the social norm of the population we will see an end to the National Endowment for the Arts. the same problem happened to slave owners what with all those from a lower culture coming into estrus and seducing white men….please!! these little tramps are all alike Lolita….we have bigger fish to fry. we need to get behind President Obama and push the change. Yes we can!!! the little tramp was took care of….leave our artists alone, they are not ordinary folks.

Kathy, the question that lingers with me is this:

Isn’t it going to be difficult to convict him without the testimony of the 13yo, now 40 something who is likely to have forgotten many details if she testifies at all?

Polanski has already been convicted. Read the grand jury transcript and weep.

Hollywood with debauchery has had an affair with perverts since the beginning. People forget Charlie Chaplin’s penchant for marring young teen girls.
To Peewee Herman (Like nobody knew from his show this guy was a fruit-loop) & others a plenty. The Picture industry has always had a soft spot for child sex. Remember Blue Lagoon?
To them this guy is the victim his 13 year old prey the predator. TV has Nambla on a regular basis. Same mindset. Innocence should be d-spoiled with injury, for their sexual impulses.

Hey, JMO, leave Pee-Wee out of it! Paul Rubens was caught in a regular adult theatre watching ordinary adult porn- no kids involved. Icky yes, but there IS a difference, and that was an unfair association. But as for JB and Ellie, I’m with you….

    Chuckle!

Just more death of feminism, and death of decency too.

What you are overlooking, is that Whoopie has a daughter. Someone should ask her what she would do if someone had lured her 13 year old daughter into a house, drugged her, and raped her. What would she have done?

That’s the question. If she says, she would have not considered it rape, then it’s a sign that she has a mental disorder.

Hm – it wàs thirty years ago, wasn’t it?

And it’s not as if Polanski came away scotfree, if I remember correctly..

Besides, I’m afraid really there was more to this case: Polanski himself was a young man, pedofilia was nowhere near as categorically considered a crime; we should remember that those were the days pedofiles were trying to hitchhike the waves of homosexual emancipation. Further more: even rape was not seen as it is today: women had to go through a lot of heartache and shame in such a compalint, and they had to prove that their reputation was unblemished enough for judges and juries to conclude an un-consential sexual act really took place against her will.
Another thing is the very strange message the girl’s mother must have sent in the eyes of the participants..: what mother allows her 13 year old daughter to model in the nude for a young man, unsupervised and in an atmosphere of sex, drugs and rock & roll?
One who hoped to land a part in one of his movies perhaps? Or one who thought she’d be offered a nice sum of money, to make the thing go away?

Don’t forget the Left doesn’t mind this type of behavior. After all it is rampant in Islam and as pointed out in “Unholy Alliance” whats good for Islam is good for the Left.

  14. September 29, 2009

From what I’ve read, she doesn’t want the case to be prosecuted at all… Sounds reasonable.. all it can bring her is further humiliation….

  15. September 30, 2009

She will not be asked to testify because the rapist has already agreed to a plea bargain and has already been convicted.
He escaped before sentence was passed.
Sentence will simply be passed based on the plea bargain.
But he will likely face an additional charge for fleeing after his conviction. This has nothing to do with the victim either so again she will not have to testify.

  16. September 30, 2009

And they already have her testimony from the 1970s. So that’s not an issue, either.

  17. October 10, 2009

Anyone who’s annoyed by what I said here, should read it again…

And then tell me where in that comment I ever advocated NOT prosecuting the creep !

DID I SAY THAT I WAS IN FAVOR OF NOT PROSECUTING THIS SLIMEBALL ???
