I'm not a fan of O'Reilly. He looks like a coaster or sell out. While Rome burns, during prime time, he has silly contests between Fox staffers, and reporters.

Hill is not as absurd as Cornel West but if these two are what passes for PhDs these days, academia has declined farther than I thought. O'Reilly must be captivated by Hill's enchanting smile which he has learned to turn on just before he goes on camera. As for me I switch to another channel until Hill has disappeared off my screen.

I feel sure that Bill O'Reilly has perfectly good reasons for having Hill on his program; he picked a person not well-versed on the questions Bill O'Reilly asks him. Bill already knows the questions, and knows Hill is not an expert on the topics related to the questions. It is, then, far easier to "control" the replies of the guest and highlights Hill's ambiguous replies.

I also agree with Horwitz, but I am certain O' Reilly purposely selected this particular person for Hills lack of knowledge on the topic. O' Reilly does not actually interested in "a serious liberal or leftist...." Any time Bill has a serious Leftist on his program, there is much friction and it is important that the "Leftie" not be intimidated by Bill's angry demeanor, but usually ends up being intimidated anyway.

The only two I have seen on O' Reilly that could NOT be intimidated were Whoopi Goldberg and Jon Stewart. Bill knew this, of course, and treated these two guests with "kid gloves," indulging their comedic side, not attempting to "rattle" them with his usual "rants and raves." These two people (Goldberg and Stewart), then, are too difficult to aggressively attack on a national broadcast. They are both very bright and informed people, in spite of not being "official experts on a topic."

O'Reilly is appeasing further to Leftists. I've been a long-time viewer and am relatively young. Yet, the transformation I've witnessed in the ten years I've watched his program, I would say that it is time to turn to better personalities on Fox News. The burka tirade, being soft on Obama, giving the spotlight to this open socialist--enough is enough. Thank god for Glenn Beck!

Several commenters have tried to impune Dr. Hill's credentials to comment on, say, Iran because he is merely a professor of education (or mistakenly, a professor of Rap). This is silly in the context of a TV show hosted by a high school teacher. I don't hear much complaining about other people's credentials. Why his?

Prof. Hill is very clearly trying to position himself as a "public intellectual." He has aspirations. I don't really think he will succeed because he is not particularly articulate and his writing is, well, Delphic. If he managing to crank out a book that get some attention (maybe with help from a ghost writer), he might succeed. On the other hand, I have a bad batting average in predicting who will and won't break in to the permanent punditbureau.

Oh my. Hill is *not* a "Professor of Rap Music". A ten second google search dispels that. He is a Professor of Education (not much more confidence inspiring). There are Hip Hop courses in universities because Hip Hop is in the world. Most university faculty long ago abandoned the idea that the job of an intellectual is to carry on the centuries-long conversation with our forebears and to contribute to that conversation for our progeny. Instead they offer "relevant" topics (translate as "shallow and epheremal").

Now, I'll bet there are a few good, intellectually worthwhile courses that focus on Hip Hop somewhere in the world. Such courses could compare the language of Hip Hop with that of other nihilist movements, for example. Such courses could look at formal musical aspects of the genre. (There is form in Hip Hop). But I am sure that the overwhelming majority of such courses are shallow and vapid. I also think there are a handful of good economics courses and a few good history courses. But most university courses (I am a university professor) are taught be people who are breathtakingly ignorant of their own fields -- particularly the philosophical problems in the foundations of their disciplines. So a typical Econ course is not appreciably better that a typical Cultural Studies course.

Bill's seems to be well intentioned, but has become so goofy I can't bear watching his show. Seems whenever he asks the right question he willingly allows the guest to completely change the topic of conversation and acts as if nothing took place.

I finally had to delete him from my DVR series recording.

Hill likes being called Che. Do you think Hill knows that Che is a mass murderer who liked making it personal by shooting people in the head with a pistol.

Progressives/liberals always have answers that never work.

O'Reilly's been dead to me since he and Murdoch got into bed with Obama at that secret meeting during the campaign.

Either O'Reilly sold his soul to Obama or Obama has something on him.

Which accounts for why he's such a suck-up to Obama.

We do not find that many African American or Colored American (Obama being colored) scholars worthy listening to. Between Affirmative Action, and suspicious promotion, it's hard to get a qualified candidate to speak on any intelligent subject. O'Reilly places people on his show that at least look "normal" someone like Juan Williams passes this test. Smart and articulate, but not too weird looking. It is hard to listen to scholars if you know or have reason to believe that they have advanced solely because of the color of their skin rather than the content in their minds.
