Ed "Clarifies": Not "All" Republicans Support Cancer, Death

As I reported yesterday, talk show host and MSNBC’s lowest rated host Ed Schultz Wednesday stated Republicans “want to see you dead,” “kinda like it” when women without insurance get cancer, and suggested Sen. Olympia Snowe allow cancerous tumors to spread through her body for two weeks before seeking treatment. Last night, he offered wimpy “clarifications” that neither apologized for his outrageous remarks nor clarified anything.

At one point, he made a defense out of his character, saying, “for clarification, those of you who watch ‘The Ed Show’ or listen to the Ed Schultz radio show, you know exactly who I am and you know exactly where I’m coming from.” Those who do either will recognize the splittle-flecked rage rant. Brian Maloney of Radio Equalizer has a small list of his meltdowns, including likening Rush Limbaugh to Adolf Hitler, calling Sen. Richard Shelby a “terrorist,” and becoming embroiled in a 2007 bar confrontation. Most recently, he invited Rep. Michelle Bachmann “to slit her wrist right here on ‘The Ed Show.'”

His clarification last night began:

First, I want some clarification with the audience. You know me. You know I’m passionate. You know I go after it…Now, do I think that all Republicans want to see people with cancer dead? No, I don’t.

He later added, “Do I believe that all Republicans want people to die? No, I don’t.” His exact words the previous night were:

The Republicans lie! They want to see you dead! They’d rather make money off your dead corpse! They kinda like it when that woman has cancer and they don’t have anything for her. That’s how the insurance companies make money, by denying the coverage.

But Big Ed’s “clarification” doesn’t really clarify anything. Schultz made clear in his original statement his words applied to Republicans in Congress. His red-faced rant was intended to dissuade Congressional Democrats from working with Republicans (Eric Cantor set him off that night), fuming: “My God, Democrats, what’s wrong with you?! You can’t deal with these people, at all!”

Far from denying Congressional Republicans are the vampires of the health care debate, he affirmed it last night in his non-apology. He insisted Congressional Republicans cannot produce a plan to help cancer sufferers — at one point he bellowed, “I want a plan from the Republicans,”  even though Republicans introduced the Patients’ Choice Act in May — because they are greedy and eeevil:

The Republicans can’t do it. They won’t do it. Because they’re about the money. It’s all about the tax cuts. It’s all about the big insurance, the Big Pharma, it’s all about livin’ for the lobbyists. That’s what they’re doing.

That sounds pretty clear. Ed claims he does not believe “all Republicans” are bloodthristy. So, which specific Republican Congressmen does he think wants people to die from cancer? He obviously doesn’t mind giving on-air “clarifications,” so I’m sure he won’t mind clearing this matter up for us.

At one point, he tried to bully Rep. Eric Cantor into coming on his show, somewhat defensively belching:

Mr. Cantor, I need you on this show – not with any other host – you need to talk to me. I’m the guy who’s been going after the public option, and I’m callin’ you out. And I think you’re kind of a coward if you don’t come face to face with me on this program.

Well, Schultz, I think you’re kind of a coward if you don’t answer my question. So, which specific Congressional Republicans want cancer victims to die?
