Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, the renowned U.S. writer and broadcaster, was on Anderson Cooper 360 last night, discussing his noble and admirable activism against Ahmadinejad’s and Gadhafi’s visit to the United States.
The Rabbi was involved in demonstrations outside the U.N., and he also had helped to block plans for Gadhafi to set up a tent on the grounds of a Libyan compound next door to his home in Englewood, N.J.
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s pronouncements against Ahmadinejad on Cooper’s program were superb and to the point. He should be applauded and commended.
But the Rabbi made a curious comment while denouncing Ahmadinejad and calling for Muslims worldwide to shun him. He said: “Islam was never an anti-Semitic faith.”
Is this really so?
If Islam was never an anti-Semitic faith, I would like to ask the following:
Why was the Muslim Brotherhood’s founder, Hassan al-Banna, a devout admirer of Adolf Hitler? Why did the Nazis help create al-Banna’s organization? And why, by the end of World II, did the Muslim Brotherhood have a half million Arab Nazis as members?
Why did the grand mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, meet with Hitler on November 28, 1941 and request Nazi assistance in engineering a Middle Eastern Final Solution?
Why, for Sayyid Qutb, an Islamist Godfather, did the Jews represent the “eternal enemy†of Islam?
Why is Mein Kampf circulated so widely in the Muslim world? Why is it a bestseller among Palestinians?
Could the answer be connected to the Koran attributing many negative characteristics to Jews, especially falsehood and distortion (Suras 3:71 and 4:46), and teaching that Jews are cursed by Allah and are his enemies? (Suras 2:61–58 and 5:78–82)
Could it all have something to do with the Koran’s teaching that Allah was so disgusted with Jews that he transformed them into apes and pigs? (Suras 5:60–65, 2:65, and 7:166)
If Islam was never an anti-Semitic faith, why did the Prophet Mohammed teach Jew-hatred explicitly by example. He commanded his followers:
“Kill any Jew that falls into your power.†[Ibn Ishaq, Siratul Rasul, v. 553]
In his later years, Mohammed himself persecuted Jews and sanctioned the killing of the males of large Jewish tribes, notably in the brutal massacre of the Jewish tribe Banu Qurayza. Mohammed ratified a judgment that saw as many as nine hundred men from this tribe beheaded, their decapitated corpses buried in a pit while he looked on.
Scholar Andrew Bostom has thoroughly documented all of these realities in The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism: From Sacred Texts to Solemn History.
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, you are a man of great integrity and courage. We support and admire your valiant efforts and pronouncements against tyrants like Gadhafi and Ahmadinejad. But could you kindly answer these questions and explain your statement?
