Remember 9/11

I am writing this blog on a windy and damp September 11th — not anything like the clear sunny day eight years ago on which nearly 3,000 innocent people were murdered by Islamic terrorists.  But time does not heal the wounds.

I was a block away on that fateful morning when the World Trade Center was attacked.  I heard the two crashes and felt my office building shake.  But most of all, the image that will stay with me for the rest of my life was seeing people jump to their deaths as the fires around them were raging.

So I was glad that the O’Reilly Factor devoted some time last night, amidst the discussions of Obamacare, to reflect on the meaning of 9/11 and to deliver the message that we should never forget the raw emotions of hurt, anguish, fear and rage that we collectively felt that day.

Unfortunately, there is a tendency in Washington and the mainstream media today to simply move on — to treat 9/11 as a timeworn day on which we should utter a few pious words before reframing the anniversary into some amorphous “Day of Service” (as President Obama proclaimed this year), rather than recognizing it as a day of re-dedication to the task of resisting Islamic terrorism.  That is a disservice to the people who died that day.

It is even more of a disservice for President Obama to repeatedly apologize to the Muslim world for the supposed transgressions of the United States, when we were the ones attacked in our homeland by Islamic jihadists. And it was an outright insult to the fallen and their survivors for the Obama administration to have hired Van Jones, a 9/11 conspiracy nut, and to retain the person who recruited Jones — Valerie Jarrett.   Ms. Jarrett, by the way, addressed the annual convention of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Islamic Society of North America (“ISNA”) during the July 4th weekend.

Let’s not forget that ISNA, whose top official Obama recently invited to a Ramadan banquet at the White House, was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation‘s Hamas terror-funding trial.

I ask President Obama, for the sake of all of us who never want to experience anything like 9/11 again, to stop the witch hunts against CIA interrogators who were trying to prevent another 9/11, and to use some common sense in dealing with terrorist suspect detainees.  Let’s not go back to the pre-9/11 mindset that left us defenseless against those who were plotting our demise.
