But as a Black man I believe that this is harmful to our cause as black people, and I believe it is only serving to split our nation further apart. Every U.S. President, from George Washington, was criticized and had those who disagreed with or opposed their policies. Why should President Obama be any different? Because he is a Black man? Of course there are many who don't like the idea of a Black man being in the White House, and they ARE racist. But not every white person who disagrees with Obama's policies or is opposed to his ideas is racist. (And by the way, nor is every Black person who has some problems with Obama a "Tom".) I asked those who are quick to cry "racism" when anyone white opposes President Obama: Is it your position that EVERYONE should agree with whatever President Obama says or does? That is, of course, absurd. He is an imperfect man like every other imperfect man who preceded him. And your insistence that any opposition to him is "racist" only handicaps him, because he should be able to take criticism like every president who came before him. In fact, concluding that any and all criticism of Obama is racist only diminishes any likelihood that a Black man (or Black woman) will ever get into the White House again. Remember, even if every black person in the United States had voted for Obama, he still would not have won the presidency if whites had not voted for him.
