Rachel Maddow spent 40 minutes of her show trying to discredit people who don’t like the Obama trillion-dollar socialized medicine plan. Not a single word of analysis, only ad hominem attacks on citizen dissenters as mobsters and proto-nazis. But this is what leftists always do — target the messenger, discredit the opponent. As Lenin said: for progressives the object of a political debate is not to refute your opponent but to wipe him from the face of the earth. I never met a leftist who didn’t follow this prescription.

Corporations of course were the evil genies behind the opposition to Obama’s socialist plan. Maddow didn’t stop to explain why the giant pharmaceuticals are running Harry and Louise ads supporting the plan. I’m sure she didn’t even notice it. Religious fanatics like Maddow don’t have the ability to notice the facts.

Earlier in the day, the once-intelligent Chris Matthews did a similar take, acting shocked, shocked that a Republican guest would suggest that Republicans ever proposed any reform to help Americans get cheaper or better medical care. DeMint? Matthews bellowed. Senator Jim DeMint — the devil incarnate? Because of course DeMint and his fellow Republicans are anti-people, just as they are anti-blacks, anti-women, anti-Hispanics and anti-children. As mentioned, this is a religious fanaticism we’re confronting.

Having finished pushing the totalitarian state (or did you think there was another possible destination for people who know what’s good for you and are willing to mobilize the state to see that you get it?), Maddow went on to the Sotomayor vote expressing disbelief that some or her opponents — those people — thought Sotomayor might be prejudiced against white people, when every progressive knows that only white people are prejudiced.

Thunder on, comrades. Over on the Anderson Cooper show, Tom Foreman was describing the results of a new CNN survey on Obama’s 200th day in office. Across the country and political spectrum, Obama gets a C- for his presidency, a C- for his foreign policy, a C- for his economic policy, and a C- for his health plan. (One or two of those could be just C’s). One hundred days ago he had B plusses. And there are 1200 days to go.
