Obama Joker vs. Bush Joker: "The Socialist Joker" Inflames the Left

2009 August 5

Caricatured portraits of Barack Obama wearing Heath Ledger-style “Joker” makeup, with the caption “socialism” situated just beneath the President’s image, have been displayed recently on numerous outdoor surfaces — telephone poles, blank walls, highway supports, etc. – in the city of Los Angeles.

Though the identity of the Photoshop artist is unknown to anyone, the Christian Science Monitor concludes, disapprovingly, that “a conservative graffiti artist” is the culprit. Adds the Monitor: “Now, digitized copies of the portraits have gone viral, spiraling across Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr. Predictably, the right-wing blogosphere is bursting at the seams with glee.”

Even more predictably, leftists have begun to complain that the portrait is racist. According to Bedlam Magazine, for instance: “The Joker white-face imposed on Obama’s visage has a sort of malicious, racist, Jim Crow quailty to it.” The good folks at L.A. Weekly, meanwhile, tell us that the portrait “has a bit of everything to appeal to the drunk tank of California conservatism: Obama is in white face, his mouth (like Ledger’s Joker’s) has been grotesquely slit wide open and the word ‘Socialism’ appears below his face. The only thing missing is a noose.”

As Matthew Vadum has already noted in NewsReal, in 2004 the very same L.A. Weekly ran this picture depicting President George W. Bush as Dracula, his mouth dripping with the blood of innocents from around the world:

BushDracula

Then there was this classic published by The Village Voice in October of that same year, showing Bush as a vampire sucking the blood of Liberty from the metaphorical neck of our nation:

Bushstatue

And just 13 months ago, Vanity Fair depicted Bush as none other than, voilà, the Joker! With no chorus of complaints from the Left!

BushJoker

Notably, these caricatures of Bush appeared neither on solitary highway stanchions nor on the walls of buildings in vacant lots, but rather in major publications of the political and social Left. This is to say nothing of the many published cartoons that routinely depicted Bush as a primate. One September 2007 Huffington Post story, in fact, actually bore the title, “New Scientific Study Reveals Bush Is a Chimp.”

What would be the Left’s reaction if a conservative were to make a similar assertion about Obama?

Bush was also commonly caricatured by the Left as Adolph Hitler. The anti-war demonstrations of 2002-2004 — led by such Marxist ”peace” coalitions as International ANSWER (a front group for the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party) and United For Peace and Justice (led by the pro-Castro communist Leslie Cagan) — featured multitudes of banners and placards depicting Bush as the Nazi Führer.

Yet now, the Left is vexed over an anonymous artist’s unflattering portrayal of its beloved President – a President who, we should remember, has had his image (and that of his family) plastered on the covers of adoring periodicals nationwide for many months.

Forgotten amid the current outrage over the “Socialist Joker” posters, of course, is the fact that Obama, by any objective measure, has shown himself to be, quite literally, a socialist in word and deed. But rather than address that plain reality, leftists prefer instead to depict the President’s detractors as sinister “racists.” This technique of diversion and demonization is taken directly out of Saul Alinsky’s infamous blueprint for transformative socialist revolution.

Matthew Vadum has noted how Glenn Beck, discussing the Obama poster on his Fox News program yesterday, chided the Left for its hyper-sensitivity to the tactics of Alinsky when those tactics are used by its ideological adversaries: “Don’t they know rule number five from Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals: ‘ridicule is man’s most potent weapon’? Interesting how mad they get when you use their rules against them, isn’t it?”

Yeah, of course if it makes fun of the annointed one it’s bad. What people don’t get is that the picture comes with a tag line that reads “Why so socialist?” It’s not racist, I think it makes a good point- the way liberals think the Bush pictures make a good point. What is sad here is the double standard.

The Navy Seals have a saying: “Don’t get mad, get even”. I would add: most certainly don’t whine & complain. The goal of combat political or otherwise is to win. Anything that detracts from that focus saps the energy to win such as all this whining about what the Left did to Bush with the Obama/Joker image. The fact of the matter the images the Left put out gained little traction because the similarities between Bush and the Joker weren’t there.

The similarities of the Joker with Obama, becoming more evident by the day, on the other hand resonate in the mind, going beyond mere ridicule: 1. Both are devilishly clever. 2. Both effect a non-chalant grace. 3. Both are outsiders. 4.Both seem to turn up everywhere everyday. 5.Both think only of themselves. 6.Both perpetually lie & dissemble.

The Joker personifies evil disguised as a clown. This simple image -a stroke of genius- can do more to break the the feverish Obama infatuation than a million words. Use it.

Never saw that, “Batman Whatever Movie.” But I definitely will see the movie now so as to experience what the poster artist is trying to convey; a very scary Obama.

I think it is a riot that vanity fair depicted Bush as the Joker and huffington (and a majority of the left) called him a Chimp. Those were inaccurate descriptions of that president.

Isn’t it about time someone in the media told the public about what researchers have found (since Milgram et al re: the “Nuremberg defence”) regarding those who adopt politically ‘conservative’ ideals? Or are they all so afraid of losing advertising dollars that they’re prepared to let conservatives carry on with their destruction of anything their fearful, violent little minds don’t understand merely to keep them as customers?

“Conservatism is not the doctrine of the intellectual elite or of the more intelligent segments of the population, but the reverse. By every measure available to us, conservative beliefs are found most frequently among the uninformed, the poorly educated, and the less intelligent”
McClosky, H. (1958). Conservatism and personality. American Political Science Review, 52, 27-45.

“It appears that conservatism has pathological dimensions manifested in violence and distorted psycho-sexual development”
Boshier, R. (1983). Education inside: Motives for participation in prison education programmes. UBC

Gary’s comment is so superficially learned, and so wrong. Conservatives have been around longer than any statists, Marxists, socialists, or communists, and will be around when all of these ideologies of death are but faint whispers of memory. The reason, dear Gary, that the MSM Pravda media won’t tell anyone your miraculous secret, besides the fact that it’s a mountain of balderdash, is that they wouldn’t understand it. They worship the strong man on a white horse, which Comrade President Zero pretended to be, and now, even that he’s slipping in approval daily, they are stuck with him. Right is still right, and right will prevail.

Regarding the posts by Gary Williams. Thanks bud. Your silly attempts to paint conservatives as deviant, supported only by cherry-picked wacko “studies” do more to discredit you than they do your theory. Those of your slanted ilk are the same that claim that anybody who opposes the left-of-Chavez slant of our current President are part of a “mob”. Not all lefties are National Socialists, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you are.

(oh, and anybody who uses the term “LOL” in a posting can’t REALLY be considered an intellectual, can they?)

  9. August 7, 2009

“LOL?” Why not “Tee-hee-hee” -? Projection; it’s all projection. Psych 101: Projection is the penchant for accusing others of that for which one is guilty. Those on the left are the haters, they are the intellectually retarded ones, they are the social and cultural vampires.

Let’s not be too hard on Gary. Clearly, he was dropped on his head as a child. That isn’t his fault, or should I say her fault, as she was recently changed to Gail.

“The Dark Knight” is top notch. Make a point to see it. See my FrontPage article “Superhero Conservatism” in which I discussed it: http://www.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=34041

Sure. You’ve got DHS and Okla. Corrections lapping up liberal propaganda I suppose? Check a link that doesn’t lead to another of the echo-chambers you restrict yourselves to, and you just might realize how sadly misinformed you are.

Try this research proposal from Okla Correctional Dept. scientists perhaps….

Change in the Conservative Personality Equals Change in the Offender with a Resultant Reduction in Recidivism

    Abstract

Offenders have many of the characteristics of the conservative personality as defined by Adorno, Collins, Wilson, and Boshier. The characteristics of the conservative personality limit change necessary for rehabilitation. Until that personality is modified, it is very difficult to reduce recidivism. Modification of the conservative personality through education and environment can lead to change in the offender’s behavior.
Is it possible to reduce violence by the criminal offender during incarceration? This paper presents the basis for a model which deals with certain offenders through an educational effort to modify some of their negative characteristics which include violence. The model in this paper is based on the concept of a conservative/authoritarian personality as it is found in offenders. The concept of the authoritarian personality remains important today as evidenced by coverage in current introductory psychology textbooks (Crooks & Stein, 1991; Dworetzky, 1991; Gleitman, 1991). “It appears that conservatism has pathological dimensions manifested in violence and distorted psycho-sexual development” (Boshier, 1983, p. 159). This is supported by a study conducted by Walker, Rowe, and Quincey (1993) in which there was a direct correlation between authoritarianism and sexually aggressive behavior. An investigation done by Muehlenhard (1988) revealed that rape justification and aggression toward subordinate individuals was much higher in traditional (conservative personality) than non-traditional personalities. It is postulated in this paper that the offender has a conservative personality and, therefore, manifests that violence.”

Ehhh… That would be you, btw. LOL

At least the last name you got correct here David, Swindle that is… Bless Rachel Corrie and her fight against the same system Obama supports – that of International Zionism and their one world agenda.

A typical liberal-to-conservative scale is nearly always substantially positively correlated with education level, and has been for a long time. (Not merely self-assessed ideology, mind you, but a factor analytical scale composed of numerous items. Lots of data on this, from GSS, World Values, NES, etc.) It’s non-linear, however, because graduate schools are so profoundly leftist and grad-school faculty wield so much leverage over students in terms of graduation and longer-term career prospects. Citing what is mostly opinionated non-empirical graduate-level “analysis” of American conservatism is like citing the fox as an authority on how to protect the hen house. See http://www.thefire.org/
