In a segment last Friday called “Turbo Tax Cheat Out to Lunch,” FOX News host Sean Hannity quoted damning remarks by the author of a new book about the 2008 financial market meltdown.

In A Colossal Failure of Common Sense, former Lehman Brothers insider Lawrence G. McDonald claims that just hours before the firm filed for Chapter 11 protection, the then-president of the Federal Reserve Bank, Timothy Geithner, was “M.I.A. [missing in action].”

Hannity quoted Lawrence as saying about the man who now serves as President Obama‘s Secretary of the Treasury:

With the most momentous failure in the history of U.S. Finance about to happen, no one could track down Geithner. They buzzed, paged and retouted. But Tim had gone to ground. It might have been just happenstance, but there was a melancholy feeling that it might equally well have been deliberate.

The reputation of “serial tax evader” Timothy Geithner, aged 47, is already less than stellar. If true, Lawrence’s accusations raise additional concerns about the competence of the man chosen by President Obama to oversee everything from printing the nation’s currency to his own Secret Service detail.
