Pope-Basher Appointed to Obama's Religious Panel

Harry Knox, the militant gay-rights activist who called Pope Benedict XVI a “discredited leader,” has been appointed by far-left President Barack Obama, whose major religious affiliations have been with America-hating radicals and racists,  to his Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Knox is currently the director of a homosexual activist organization called the Human Rights Campaign. He told a newsman from the San Francisco-based Bay Area Reporter that the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic fraternal service organization, could be described as a regiment of “foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression” because of its role in the campaign to pass Proposition 8, the successful November ballot measure that made same-sex marriage unconstitutional in California. According to Knox, the Knights traditionally have “followed discredited leaders,” including bishops and Pope Benedict.

Knox’s anger at the leader of the Catholic Church as a result of Proposition 8 has not been an isolated incident. He also has attacked the Church’s position on contraception and has railed against Benedict’s edicts on the subject of sexual responsibility.

For example, during his recent Africa trip Pope Benedict said that distributing condoms would not solve the problem of AIDS, and that the promotion of abstinence and monogamy was the Church’s recommended means of controlling sexually transmitted diseases. Knox was quick to retort: “The Pope needs to start telling the truth about condom use. We are eager to help him do that.  Until he is willing to do that and able, he’s doing a great deal more harm than good — not just in Africa but around the world. It is endangering people’s lives.”

Has the Obama administration had any second thoughts about the appointment of an anti-Catholic, militant, gay-activist to a faith-based organization? It appears not. The President has been uncharacteristically silent post-appointment. And Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a self-proclaimed Catholic who routinely places her leftwing agendas above the Church’s teachings, gave this surprising answer when asked her opinion of Knox’s statement regarding the Pope:  “I’m so sorry. I’m just totally unaware of that statement.”

Just like she was unaware that waterboarding had been used against a few al Qaeda terrorists, even though she had been thoroughly briefed about the practice numerous times.
